In Järna, an idyllic community just to the south of Stockholm, lies an apartment complex built in the 60’s called ‘Norrtuna’. This area has a well established reputation as a focal point of vandalism, drugs, and violence. How well this reputation is deserved however is questionable. The apartments are located at the top of a steep hill just a short distance from the center of Järna, and to come down the hill one must go down a rickety set of stone steps that have received constant attention in the local news media. The reason being that no one takes care of the steps; this includes the job of snow removal and sanding in the winter months. The rental agency that owns the apartments claims that the steps are owned by the county, whereas the county claimed that the steps are indeed a part of the rental agency’s property. The Professional Art Gangsters, however, had absolutely nothing against having a set of steps. We decided to stir up the situation by taking upon us the responsibility of care for the controversial steps during several illogical occasions over the years, the first of which happened on the 21st
of June 2001 when the magnificent inauguration of The Steps Of Norrtuna was held.
